CHRIS RAEL 365
In 2015 I posted a song a day for the whole year. 365 of my best, including many live tracks and rarities not to be found on albums. All styles, dozens of collaborators, constantly changing.
ART of the DAY
When quarantine began, my son Sasha & I started Art of the Day as a project to share what was going on at our house with others. Now it's become my go-to vehicle for casual art-sharing.
CHURCH OF BETTY
Dozens of videos from over the years, a rich variety of material across eras of the band.
ARABY
My song cycle Araby retells the short stories of James Joyce's Dubliners in 1 story-song each. It received the Composition Award at the New York Fringe Festival in 2011. Clips are from the original production at Dixon Place in 2009 & the 2011 production at LaMama & Players Theatre.
FAR AWAY HOME
A 45-minute documentary made from home movies of discovering my Spanish-American family in New Mexico in the early 2000s. Penny Arcade shot most of it; years later I edited it together with narration & a soundtrack.
MUSIC VIDEOS
Most of these videos are from the last 10 years. I made many, including the travelogues. Others were made by talented filmmaker friends, displaying a range of originality in capturing Church of Betty.
COLLABORATIONS
Performance videos with a couple dozen special artists with whom I've had the pleasure to make songs. A wide variety, something for everyone.
THROUGH MY LENS
I love to shoot others playing music and am fortunate to know many great artists. Here's a trove of wildly diverse material I've captured over the years.
HOWL! FESTIVAL
I was the music curator for the original Howl! Festival in the East Village in 2003 and did more series with them over the years. Here are some of the unique talents I had the privilege to bring together for the community.
LOWER EAST SIDE BIOGRAPHY PROJECT
I've been a proud contributor to this video project chronicling the oral cultural history of downtown NYC for more than 20 years. COB has contributed much music programming to the show. Founded by Penny Arcade & Steve Zehentner with Rick Jungers & Dean Lance. Explore for hours!
